Relating SIGs to my Practice (Task 4B)

I have noticed over the past few months that Lauren Harper
(http://laurenharper26.blogspot.hr) on my module course shares similar interests to me. This naturally got me thinking about the possibilities of SIGs (Special Interest Groups) perhaps already exist but need highlighting.
I have already, by chance, tagged her in an Instagram post regarding healthy breakfast options which she has previously posted about before.
I am a strong believer that healthy eating reflects and aids my professional practice. It requires discipline, planning and time (similar to acting prep) and it encourages a healthy being inside and out. I can gain enough energy to focus on my studies and exercise. Concentration is vital for the acting profession and healthy food gives me the stamina I need. I am sure teachers, writers, creatives, dancers etc can gain the same values from nutrition, any thoughts?

  1. I share this wave length, the difference in my day when I have had a good breakfast is noticeable. Additionally, when I have food prepped my meals for the week, I am more relaxed and look forward to my meals, i have more time on an evening after a day at work. I have a food board on my Pintrest where I save a bank of healthy meal ideas and recipes. Not only does it help me look after my being -mind and body - it encourages me to try new things.

    1. Hey Jennifer,
Thanks for your comment! It is something I reckon quite a lot of people in our industry share. If you focus on the organisational side of things it's no wonder we tend to prepare healthy meals - so as we have the energy and time to get on with other things we can do. Perhaps we can share ideas with each other?

  2. Hi Eleanor, I am a ballet dancer and also have a number of food intolerances therefore I completely agree with you that a healthy diet is essential in order to be able to work properly. With my food intolerances I often find it quite a struggle to ensure that I get everything I need so I have to really plan ahead. I will be interested to see how your inquiry develops.

    1. Hi Ann, nice to (virtually) meet you. Definitely, I would agree preparation majorly helps to maintain a good diet and get all the nutrients one needs. I can imagine as a ballet dancer fuel is especially essential to keep you going? I always feel slightly out of touch if I am eating as I go and not paying attention to my diet entirely. I am still unsure of the direction of my inquiry, however, diet may be a topic I touch on in a subheading

  4. Hi Eleanor,
This is something I have experienced in dancing as if I didn't eat the right foods my body would be sluggish and leave me have a less productive day.
I also believe it is a big mindset. If you spend the time food prepping, and organizing your everyday life you feel you have everything more together, which then leaves you feeling more successful at the end of the day.
it would be interesting to see if there is actually evidence of this working or if it is just something we all believe without questioning?!

    1. Hi Kirsty - great idea! Maybe it is something the group of us could monitor in some way and share our results on our blogs?

  5. Hi Eleanor
There is a old saying "You are what you eat" and this is so true. Good habits that are formed early will stay with us through life.
Jessica Dinmore and I have stared a SIG group based on our common interests. We have spoken on the telephone and been emailing and have started to asking questions relating to our practice.
We have both followed your blogs and feel that it would be beneficial for us all to work together on this task. Jessica is a performer/practitioner as am I and we both know that you are interested in all aspects of performance, acting, writing etc. Let us know.

  6. Hi Eleanor,

I totally agree with this concept. For me it's not even career related, the difference in my mood when I eat rubbish to when I eat well is massive. Eating rubbish, processed, food makes me feel sluggish, lazy and unmotivated. However, eating well makes me feel like I have heaps more energy and I feel like my concentration levels are so much higher!! Maybe its all in the mind but my body definitely thanks me for eating better!
